I Global Position System – GPS che da venticinque anni monitorano l’Etna
maggio 20, 2013 – 11:09 pm | No Comment

Lunar Solar Power Generation & Lunar Bases

Submitted by on giugno 5, 2010 – 2:26 pmNo Comment

The Energy Paradigm Shift Opens the Door to a Sustainable Society. A shift from economical use of limited resources to the unlimited use of clean energy is the ultimate dream of all mankind. The LUNA RING, our lunar solar power generation concept, translates this dream into reality through ingenious ideas coupled with advanced space technologies. Virtually inexhaustible, nonpolluting solar energy is the ultimate source of green energy that brings prosperity to nature as well as our lives. Shimizu Corporation proposes The LUNA RING for the infinite coexistence of mankind and the Earth.  Robotic Construction. Robots will play a vital role in construction on the lunar surface. They will be tele-operated 24 hours a day from the Earth. The Solar Belt Configuration 1. Lunar solar cells. To ensure continuous generation of

power, an array of solar cells will extend like a belt along the entire 11,000km lunar equator. This belt will grow in width from a few kilometers to 400km.  2. Electric power cables. The cables will transfer the electric power from the lunar solar cells to the transmission facilities. 3. Microwave power transmission antennas. The 20km-diameter antennas will transmit power to the receiving rectennas. A guidance beacon (radio beacon) brought from the Earth will be used to ensure accurate transmission. 4. Laser power transmission facilities. High-energy-density laser will be beamed to the receiving facilities. A guidance beacon (radio beacon) brought from the Earth will be used to ensure accurate transmission. 5. Transportation route along the lunar equator. Materials needed for the construction and maintenance of the Solar Belt will be transported along this route. Electric power cables will be installed under the transportation route.  6. Solar cell production plants. The

plants will move automatically while producing solar cells from lunar resources and installing them.  Lunar Bases -Construction on The Moon-  Plan of Lunar Bases. In advanced space programs, lunar bases will be recognized as one of the important components of space infrastructure. Lunar bases will be constructed using applied terrestrial technologies. Shimizu Corporation has been accumulating technological skills over 200 years and is now facing the challenge of applying them to the new frontier of the moon, while continuing R&D on structures, materials, construction systems, and design of lunar bases. Concrete Lunar Base. Lunar bases in the future may be constructed using concrete from lunar resources. The shape of concrete module is hexagonal column to realize multi-directional extension of base. For long-term manned mission, interior of base should be designed considering 1/6G gravity environment. Construction Materials. Shimizu has continued R&D on concrete production and its utilization to construct lunar structures,

focusing especially on its flexibility in processing and its excellent performance in radiation shielding. Construction Systems. Unmanned construction systems will be a critical matter in the severe lunar environment. The concept of self-assembling structures using membranes and air-inflation systems could realize light-weight structures and reduce transportation costs. Shimizu’s construction robot technologies will be applied to construction work on the moon, thereby minimizing the hazards of manned activities. In the advanced phase of lunar bases, larger construction machines/robots will be needed to perform civil engineering work. Based on studies on the required function and performance of these machines, the optimum construction plan will be developed. Design of Base. The design of lunar bases has to meet future requirements, including expandability and operability. Shimizu has performed several joint studies on a reference design lunar base with McDonnell Douglas Aerospace for years. news from: shimz.co.jp
